- 2 butternut squash - peeled, seeded, and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, or to taste
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning, divided, or to taste
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) jar pasta sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
- 2 ½ teaspoons salt, divided
- 1 (16 ounce) container ricotta cheese
- 2 eggs, beaten
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons dried parsley
- 1 (8 ounce) ball fresh mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese, or to taste
